Default Help the Googlebot

Sidney Markowitz pointed out this useful essay, which I mentioned on INETPUB. But I think people here will also find it useful.

Help the Googlebot understand your web site” by Gina Trapani is a really useful article on how to get your site indexed properly by Google.

She explains which mechanisms are important (robots.txt and meta robots tags, yes; meta key words, no), the importance of plain text, and more.

There are also links to useful sites with more information, including the Google Webmaster Guidelines.
