Default Writing to Book Authors?

Have you written to a book author? Did you get a reply? Just curious.

I have been thinking about writing to some non-fiction book authors, either to thank them for an informative and well written book, or to ask about some issue which arose from my reading. I have never done this, so I wonder if anyone here in the forum has tried it.
