Thanks so much for the links...most interesting...particularly using the eraser as the support when stapling which is a very clever idea! I like Don's idea of clear tape for your book. They also make clear/transparent duct tape which has filaments of string (?) to make it stronger which you could also use to redo the binding--I find it stickier than the regular grey duct tape too....
