Oh, he wasn’t serious. As I said, he likes to stir things up. (He writes about printers, and has a cavalier attitude the rest of us cannot afford!)

At this point I am pretty sad. A new black cartridge is not printing well (fails multiple nozzle checks). Grump.

Ah, well, more anon.

I haven’t received the cleaning kit yet, but I did get a replacement cart yesterday. Put it in, and while it does print now, it failed 5 nozzle tests in a row, until I ran out of steam.

And my attempt to print a page of mostly text was a disaster.

Time out today for a dental implant (kind of keeps me away from the drated printer!), and then I guess I’ll wait to see if the cleaning kit helps.

On the other hand, I have never gotten a print out of this printer that was entirely satisfactory. The first set of ink carts never quite passed their nozzle tests. The replacement set was better, but I would still see white streaks occasionally. I thought it was because I was being careless about turning it off when not in use, and it did improve somewhat with the next set when I was more careful.

But now this. Maybe I should be looking for a replacement.

Got a wonderful ad for a Xerox Phaser yesterday. Laser color has come a long way in the past decade.

I don't think I would ever buy one of these cheapo printers and I think in the long run, they just cost you more money...sorry the new cart didn't help...

Seems so. For one thing, every second set of carts buys another printer.

I just wanted to have some color in my life.

Thanks. This is my 10th implant. You’d think I would be used to it by now! But not exactly.

I think it's getting to the stage where printers are disposable commodities -- it's the refills that cost the money.

I recently bought an HP colour laser printer with duplexer and Postscript. The printer cost just over £300 and it came with a full set of toner cartridges that will cost over £200 to replace.

I was asked if I wanted an extended warrantee but I thought it was hardly worth it -- replacing the printer would probably end up a cheaper option.

I think you will find that the laser printers described as suitable for 'small workgroups' still cost £400 and upwards (though you may be lucky and get a just superseded model for less) and are generally more solidly built than those described as 'personal' printers.

How do you like the color? You do not use this for your art prints, do you?
