Default Good color photo books

Rick LePage has an excellent article on books on digital photogaphy at his MacWorld blog — well worth reading, regardless of platform. (Not only are books platform-neutral, so are most of the tools and techniques mentioned.)

Several of these books look enticing, but Stephen Johnson on Digital Photography in particular. LePage describes it this way:
“The book is part history, part photographic philosophy, and part tutorial, all delivered in Stephen’s inimitable style. At first glance, it might appear to be more like a fine-art book than a tutorial/reference work, but it really is worth digging into.”
But there are also more practical books in the list, including what sounds like a comprehensive book on fine-art printing for photographers and a couple of books on using camera raw.
