Default Problems installing Acrobat Reader in VISTA

I'm running a copy of the VISTA RTM in order to get some experience of it for when it is publically released at the end of the month.

There's a problem installing Adobe/Acrobat Reader 8 under VISTA that stumped me. Because I was doing a lot of playing around I had disabled the User Access Control which pops up messages from Nanny every time you do anything like download copy install and so on. I had no problems.

Then I heard there was a version of AR8 for VISTA and so I went and got it and it would not install -- tossed up a message about not having enough room on the drive or the destination folder for installing from or not having permissions.

Then this evening I found a KB article on the Adobe website that explains it:

Background information On Vista, with User Account Control disabled, there is no write and execute access to the %TEMP% folder.

So I re-enabled UAC and sure enough it installed fine!

I don't know if it is specific to Adobe and VISTA or not -- I had no problems with a range of other installations but I can't in retrospect be sure whether or not UAC was on although my recollection is that I had disabled it when asked during the installation of VISTA.

FWIW Forewarned is forearmed .....
