Default Footnotes in InDesign CS3

Hi, I'm running into a problem that I'm not sure how to fix. Maybe someone has an answer for me.

I'm working on a journal and most of the footnotes work just fine, but when I get to a table that was imported (from Word) and it has a footnote, the following happens..

1. the footnote is renumbered. In Word, it is footnote 50, but when imported, it becomes 1.

2. the corresponding footnote is found at the END of the document.

3. when I go back to regular text after all the tables, the normal footnotes are in the right place and the correct footnotes are linked, but they are renumbered, as if the table footnotes were completely skipped over. Like footnote 58 is now 50.

Does anyone know why that would be happening and how I can fix it? Do I need to manually recreate the footnotes to go where they need to go?
