High School of the Future
The Philadelphia High School of the Future has opened, a joint project of Microsoft and the School District of Philadelphia.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer today, this new high school of about 700 students will not have a library, only a "Learning Resource Center" which will have almost no books. The students will be expected to do most of their research on the Internet. The newspaper questions this approach, and the aversion to books. So do I. What do you think? Can high school students who use the Internet and almost no books, succeed in today's colleges and universities? If this concept catches on elsewhere, what does it mean for the future of publishing? |
