Default Monotype buys Linotype

A quote from the Monotype Imaging announcement (and you can read the full press release and FAQ via links from there):
Monotype Imaging Acquires Linotype
August 2, 2006

Monotype Imaging and Linotype are joining forces to pursue a common vision — to help customers improve global communication through type. The combination of Linotype’s high-quality library and Monotype Imaging’s font technology offerings and global distribution strengths will provide customers worldwide a greater range of typographic solutions. Monotype Imaging and Linotype are also passionate about type and will work together to ensure that the type community flourishes.
After all the publishing industry has gone through in the past 20 years, I suppose nothing is surprising. But these two, in one guise or another, have been intense rivals since the beginning of the 20th century, so this comes as a shock.

What it means for customers is not clear, but do read up — maybe you can tell us.
