Try asking in the Compuserve Photography Forum where there is a lot of discussion of scanning and in particular since there are a number of photographers there located in CA, including I think Mike Wilmer the WIZOP, you could get pointers to good labs to go to for scanning.

You don't have to be a member of Compuserve any more -- just log on with an AIM etc name and set a password.
