Default notebook cooler

My notebook computer gets hot near the heat outlet the left side. So hot it makes me worry. This is when it's sitting on my lap. I have a polyethylene cutting board that's about the same dimensions as my computer. What's amazing is the outlet area no longer feels too hot. It seems amazing that this would make so much difference. Maybe my legs are blocking a vent.

Anyway, I was going to use this until I get a real computer cooler, but I really wonder if it's worth changing.
