Default ACDSee 17

I took a chance and upgraded to version 17. I never know if it's going to be more buggy than the last version. Surprise, surprise. This is the most stable version I've tried since version 3. I've been using it for more than a month and it only crashed once. So far every feature I try works. And they didn't remove any useful features.

I gave up at about V9 and went for the Pro version insteade. It still crashes occasionally - what is is about Canadian s/w? Corel used to be just as bad - and PSP X6 is still flaky.

FWIW, I was going to ask the same question about mud-brick software. I've got Adobe Premiere and Photoshop Elements here. The latter is so slow to wake up that I nearly never bother with it. I can pop open any of several other apps, do what I need to do, save and be onto something else in less time. And Premiere's crashed every time I've tried to do anything with it.

I assumed the Pro version is the same code with additional features plugged in. So I never took that risk. But I kept using ACDSee because of the interface and feature set. And now it seems to be stable. But that doesn't guarantee the next version will be.

You might want to test drive the current version. It is the first version since 2.x that I've been willing to recommend. Of course, my needs are very simple. All I use it for it to view files, move files, and launch applications. For all I know all the advanced management features still don't work right.

One thing I had to take note of, though. I went to the ACDSee forum just to let them know how impressed I am by this version. They had changed their forum software to vBulletin 5 Connect. Interesting that they finally came out with a solid product, but switched to a version of vBulletin that is so bad no successful forum admin will touch it.
