Default New Red Paw Media Plugins (Win)

Two new Red Paw Media plugins are out.

Beautifier. A common technique in professional photography is to add diffusion and glow to a photo. At moderate levels it is sometimes called a glamour shot. But it is also used at very light levels just to give one type of studio look. This is what Beautifier does. And it also simulates an Infra-red look. Red Paw Media offers Beautifier free of charge. http://www.redpawmedia.com/beautifier.html

Fog. I don't know how often you need to simulate fog in a photo, but this plugin makes it easy. The default setting is graduated, and several controls adjust the fog as needed. The Fog plugin costs only $9.95. http://www.redpawmedia.com/fog.html

Interesting stuff!

I had problems initially to download Beautifier, but got it after several retries; I suspect they use a smallish server with not a very big pipe.

While I was at the site I also downloaded GradFilter (not free) which looks as though it might help with some of my (many, this time) "through the window" shots. Do you have any experience with this filter?

(I still need to finish importing my last trip's images in the IMatch database, but once that's done trying to improve/repair the many shots I have made through the bus (and train) window will be one of the first things to tackle.)

I tried the demo and had trouble getting the gradient to look as though it was a natural tone of the photo. I don't know if it was the plugin, or just me. But if you want to compare two gradient filters before you buy, you can also look at Photographic Filters from ChromaSoftware http://www.chromasoftware.com/photographic_filters.htm.

BTW, Red Paw Media's Bleach Bypass Pro plugin is a real standout among special effect plugins. Aside from being the best Bleach Bypass simulation I've seen, the controls are so flexible you can use it for high contrast and grain effects that are not strictly within the bleach bypass look.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that as well.

I have the free Bleach Bypass downloaded, but not installed yet. But at the moment I'm mostly interested in filters that can be used for "repair and retouch" (color corrections, noise reduction, etc.) rather than special effects.

I'm sure my "through the window" pics can be corrected somehow, but haven't worked out yet exactly how to tackle them. The information is there, I 'just' have to tease it out. It looks like a color filter (tinted glass!), with sometimes a very slight gradient - so I'll need something like a color filter only to "subtract" rather than "add"; but that would probably be just a layer setting. That's as far as my thinking has got so far.

And I have some taken with high ISO settings (some scans, too) that will need good noise reduction - I have candidates for that as well, just will need to get the filters and experiment before spending my precious euros...
