Not so, most books are now released in the UK in ePub format as well as Amazon's proprietory format (which can be converted to ePub relatively easily).

My daughter, a student, has just bought the latest Sony pocket reader, which is even better than mine. The contrast is higher, and they have seriously enhanced the way pdf files are handled. A lot of her required reading is in pdf so that was the main reason for getting one. Also it was reduced in price.... Battery life seems to be about the same (3 weeks) but she has the same problem that I do. Whenever I have a quiet moment I get the reader out of my pocket and continue reading. It is too convenient.

Our local library is about to start free "loans" of ebooks which will only be in ePub format
