Default Monitor suggestion?

We are in the final year of a three-year Express Exchange agreement with Viewsonic for the P225 monitor. The monitors are OK, but we're on our third replacement. The things just go "poooof" too easily.

Anyway, we are NOT planning to continue with the P225's once the warranty/exchange is up. I'm looking for suggestions for replacements. We have workstation cubicles that have "windows" 22" x 22" in which to fit a monitor--and would like to find a model large enough to fill that space as much as possible. Cost target $800 to $1200 each. These are used almost exclusively for print DTP, mostly InDesign, Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, CorelDraw...as well as some internet access. Windows 2000 Pro.

The last time we went monitor-shopping, we looked into flat-panel LCD's but came to the conclusion that although resolution and display were great, they did not render colors accurately. In the last three years, have they gotten any better with color accuracy?

Any specific model recommendations?

Yeah...they have and crt's are becoming *quite* scarce...the Eizo's (http://www.eizo.com/ ) get good reviews on the Apple Colorsync-users list (I sub even though I'm pc based)...also check out the Mitsubishi-Nec line for both CRT's and LCD's... http://www.necmitsubishi.com/products/index.cfm

I have a NEC Multisync FP 955 (19") that I like very much...not sure what the current models are...

I've been very pleased with my Planar PL2010, which I've calibrated with Eye One Display and use regularly for photo editing.

I'm so glad you popped in here...I couldn't remember which one you'd bought...

FWIW, I have been doing thoro research on LCD monitors, and have just purchased a Sony SDM-HS75 17" model -- it offers the sharpest text and finest colors I could find, and really stands out against all the other major name brands I investigated.

Currently, at Best Buy and Office Depot, its list price of $400 is reduced by a $50 rebate from Sony. And it has a three-year warranty.

That's not too bad...it's my understanding that Sony will no longer be manufacturing crt displays so it will be interesting to see what new lcd's they introduce...
