Default InDesign documents won't show Master layout

Hello, I've done this before, but I can't figure out why it won't happen now! I want to set up guides and page numbers on my master page to have them show throughout the document, but when I double click on a page, nothing is there. It seems that it's not showing anything that I've done on the master page. Is there something I might have checked or unchecked and that's why it won't show?
