Default Thunderbird, or other ports in the storm

I'm using Eudora (XP, SP2)

She's getting a bit long in the tooth, and today I hit some snags relating to alternate ports (Comcast informed me today that there's a security issue). I use several different providers for my myriad e-mail accounts, and they don't all want to use the same ports. I discovered that Eudora can't (at least not easily, and I do not want to look under the hood) use different ports for different accounts.

But I was told (by a Comcast dude) that Thunderbird can.

I did try Thunderbird last year, but when I was installing/setting it up, I apparently told it to import all of my bazillions of Eudora mailboxes, and it took an unbelievable amount of time to do that. Coupled with the fact that it couldn't import my Eudora e-mail filters, I gave up on Thunderbird.

But I think I need to try something other than Eudora, because of the port nonsense. I really, really hate to change e-mail clients, because I am old and have trouble learning new programs. Also, I've had massive e-mail problems for the past two months, and don't need any more aggravation.

Is there anything I should be looking at other than Thunderbird? Or should I just gird my loins and go for it?

Don't even mention that Outlook thing. It's not going to happen.
