My compuserve address had been getting a lot of spam over the last couple of weeks and while they were all getting automatically shuffled off to the cserve/aol spam folder, it was annoying to see so much of it--prior to this, I'd get may 1 or 2 a day and was now getting 25-35 or more a day. It took me a few days to realize that most of it was coming from one place. How did I know that? The spammer was using the same username on the spam being sent out--the domain name was different on all of them.
It finally occurred to me that I'd been given a gift because I could (I hoped) easily block this spammer by entering the spammerusername@* in my spam block list. No more taking a quick look to see if the domain was real (never is), no more having to live this the crap coming through mulitple times. I wasn't sure it would work--I have a vague memory of doing something like this before and having it farkle my email to hell and gone--but it's working quite nicely and I've started to pay more attention to the usernames in my spam folder to see any other spammer has had what they think is a great idea of using the same username. I hope more of them decide to do this because it makes getting rid of them sooo much easier...'-}} Terrie |
