Default Avant Garde Alternates (at last!)

When Herb Lubalin first conceived of Avant Garde Gothic, it was intended for the logo for Avant Garde magazine, and special ligatures were an essential part of the design. If you have old issues of U&lc, ITC brochures, or type specimen books of the era, you will see them included with the basic font.

Somehow, on the way to the desktop, poor Avant Garde was shorn of these useful and interesting characters, and the face has suffered without them. Until now. Elsner & Flake has released five weights of Avant Garde “alternate” characters. See them on the FontShop web site.

These will work with the E&F set of Avant Garde; not positive how they will work with other Avant Garde fonts.
