Blurring faces (on purpose)
This is a new one on me. One of my clients wants to use a photo (in their newsletter) that includes people for whom they do not have a release.
So they want me to blur out some of the faces. I can't imagine how to do this without making it look like a mistake. Unless I put black bars over their eyes. <LOL> I guess it needs to be done in an obvious way, so it doesn't just look like a crappy or weird photo. FWIW, they don't want me to crop out the people, which is what I think we should do. Suggestions? mxh |

Some people create a selection and blur there. Because of the hard edge where the blur ends, it looks like it was done on purpose.

I just tried -- using Box Blur. It looks terrible. It's too hard to see the hard edge (the photo is not very large, and there are lot of people, so the faces are small).
It looks like a mistake! Maybe I need to create areas of great big pixels, like they do on Reno 911. <g> mxh |

I can't crop it, because the kids (which are the faces I'm supposed to blur) are important to the story. Plus, that would leave me with a photo about an inch wide and 6 inches deep. <g>

How about doing a selection and then stroking it with a narrow black line and then do the blur? What are you using to blur? Are you using Gaussian Blur? I would think that would give you more control... Terrie |

It doesn't matter how I blur the faces.
It just looks really, really stupid. mxh |

Ooooh, I like the idea of the Noh masks!
I did experiment with various Photoshop filters that I've never used. I think pixellate/mosaic might give me the Reno 911 effect, but I prefer pixellate/pointillize. <g> mxh |

And it doesn’t sound very attractive, either. __________________ :: [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] |
