Default Remember Carousel? (think 1991)

Going through a bunch of old papers I came across some information on Carousel, the software that became Acrobat not long after it was announced (not sure there was ever even a package saying Carousel).

I do remember being quite befuddled by the announcement of this product, which occurred at a Seybold conference. But the description I see in this writeup sure sounds like the PDF we know (i.e., 14 years later I guess I understand it a little better):
With Adobe Carousel, you can transport documents across DOS, Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX platforms without losing typefaces, formatting, or graphics. The receiver can view and print replicas of the original.
Gosh: DOS! The text also says that “… in later upgrades, Adobe will aim to add editability and the capability of transmitting video and audio, thus hoping to become a standard in the multimedia arena.” And there is a reference to the software as containing “a distillery.”

I would say that today’s Acrobat PDF looks pretty much like what Adobe was thinking of — not always a certainty with new-concept products like this one, even if it was hard (for me) to understand at the time!
