I find it really annoying, since reapplying the style sheet gets rid of all the local formatting (italics, bolds, etc.) that I have so carefully preserved from the clients' Word files using Quark tags or xtags or whatever they're called.
I'm not able to try this at the moment, but what about renaming the "Normal" (or whatever) style sheet in Word to the exact name of the one you want in XPress, then importing checking the box to include styles? Dunno that that's the answer, but it's worth a shot.
