Gracol and Fogra Standards put to the test

The British Printing Industries Technical Committee has organised a colour testing day at Heidelberg London on Thursday, July 20th 2006, to see how Gracol7 is implemented and compare printed sheets against sheets produced using the ISO Coated Forgra 27 standard.

Peter Arnel, Chairman of the Committee, and joint managing director of White Horse Press, Newbury, said: “There has been much debate recently regarding the difference between the GRACoL and Fogra standard that I thought it appropriate that we in the UK should see the differences for ourselves. The UK had always been a centre for printing excellence and for this to continue we now need to be involved and active in setting standards.”

Pual Sherfield, from Missing Horse Consultancy, has been appointed as lead consultant for the day and will be responsible for preparing the tests files. Numbers are restricted but it is hopeful that many of those that are interested in colour will come along and participate. At the end of the day it is intended that those that want to will take sheets away and comment on them.

Running alongside the test will be a proof comparison project where major pre-press suppliers will be asked to supply proofs of the test to the ISO Coated Fogra27 standard. Once again those there will be asked to comment on the proofs.

This is the first time that the UK has ever carried out such tests.

To reserves a space please contact Heena Bulsara at the BPIF on 020 7915 8338 or email heena.bulsara@bpif.org.uk To see the test form, and comment on it before the day, contact Paul Sherfield at paul@missinghorsecons.co.uk
