Default Couch Potato Extraordinaire

Good Morning!

I am a reasonably proficient user of Adobe DTP products. I majored in photojournalism at the University of Missouri in Columbia in the middle of the last century. Yes, I am a Certified Olde Farte.

My interests in DTP are varied. They range from producing software user manuals to photojournalistic records of our church choir's performances across Europe. The enemy I fight almost daily is dot gain. I never win without editing the photograph. There has to be a more efficient way.

I spent my working life in various U.S. Navy and commercial aircraft cockpits. In Vietnam, I flew A4-E attack aircraft for aircraft carriers operating in the Gulf of Tonkin. I collected all the common "I've-been-there-medals," a Distinguished Flying Cross, and multiple Air Medals, Navy Commendation Medals, and unit citations.

I retired from Continental Airlines just after 9-11 at the the FAA's mandated retirement age. At the time I was flying from the NYC area across the pond to various capitals in Europe in the DC-10 aircraft. Great fun!

Since retirement, I have been studying music composition, recording technology, and vocal performance. Had I realized as a teenager that I had been given a singing voice, I might have never become a pilot.

In summary, I am just the prototypical "Been There, Done That" retired couch potato.

Hello and welcome to the forum. You've certainly done some interesting jobs in your working life, and seem to be keeping very busy with major new interests in retirement.

Well...I don't know of anyone who takes the perfect shot that never needs some sort of editing be it due to the camera used and/or the camera operator. As to efficiency, that in all likelyhood has to do with what one is using to edit--analog darkroom, digitally based darkroom and skill in/with either...'-}}

Welcome! I have to say that I don't think you qualify for the Couch Potato title - if you would like to attempt to qualify you're welcome to send some of your energy on over here to me!

As Terrie said, the photo that is perfect for print right out of the camera has not been discovered yet. Editing of some sort is always required ... but sometimes that's the fun part!
