Default Compuserve pop email slow

I am trying to retrieve two messages and it is crawling along slower than a snail. There is nothing big about these messages. I checked via the web interface. They are just text. I also tried my aol pop email and have the same problem.

Anyone else seeing this?

Not me...I manually "filter" my cserve email account by logging into http://webmail.aol.com/ and checking for and deleting spam, deleting legitimate (vs. spam) emails that I'm not all that interested in and then downloading the remaining mail via Eudora--via POP--and I've not had any problems with retrieval being slow. I wonder if it's a west coast issue?

What are you using to retrieve your mail?

I'm using Eudora 7.1.0.9. Which one are you using.

BTW, I just ran a test. I deleted all messages except the one from this forum notifying me that you had replied to my thread. It could not handle that one message.

It is times like this I wish I had never gotten started with a CSi email address. But what did I know.

What is "it"--Eudora or aol web interface? I suspect you mean Eudora. What do you have set in the Eudora Personality for your cserve account?

For my Eudora cserve Personality (it's my Eudora Dominant Personality but I don't think that matters), my Incoming Mail tab for my cserve account has the following:
Server: pop.csi.com
Configuration: pop
Leave Mail on Server": checkmarked--both the "delete" options are UNchecked as is the "skip messages over..."
Authentication Style: Passwords
Secure Sockets When Receiving: Never --I have a vague recollection of having changed this setting not long ago...

In Options > Checking Mail:
Mail Server: pop.csi.com
User Name: mycservenumericuserid@compuserve.com
Check Mail Every: 0 --both "don't check" options are UNchecked
Send On Check: checkmarked (I think that's the password)
Secure Sockets When Receiving: Never --I have a vague recollection of having changed this setting not long ago...

Options > Incoming Mail:

Server Configuration: POP
Leave Mail on Server: checkmarked --the 2 "delete" options are UNchecked as are "Skip messages..." and "Offline"
Authentication Style: Passwords

Just had a thought. Do you have any other Eudora Personalities set to download mail to Eudora when you click on the "Check Mail" button? If so, turn them off and see if that helps--highlight each Personality in turn, right-click, choose "Properties", "Generic Properties" tab, UNcheck "check mail" (at the bottom left of the tab).

Well, after reading your reply I realized I had not adequately tested before. I had not sent test emails to myself, to make sure I was testing the other servers when they had emails on them. This showed me it was not just CompuServe and AIM/AOL. So I checked firewalls, AV etc. And then I decided to reboot. What the heck. And that fixed it, at least for now. Sorry about all the trouble you went to.

I've had that happen to me too...it's like the system gets overloaded somewhere and a reboot resets/cleans stuff out and it's back to whatever passes for normal...'-}}
