For some people a line of type that they can read, and is therefore unambiguous, is far better than an icon that could mean more than one thing, or might be unrecognizable altogether. But, at least it's there and you can see where it is. But, when you have to remember which piece of the screen you need to hover over in order to get something done, that's a whole new level of confusing.

Especially in 8.1 there's more labeling (some optional) than may be apparent. The Right mouse click on the Start button pop up menu puts up system tools by name tht you will recognize;
That's definitely an improvement - and it's not the only one. But you still have to remember that the items are there and this is a way to find them.

Better to try and succeed, than try and fail. But if the rumors are true, I'm glad they are willing to back off on pushing things too far too fast. And I hope they have an open beta.

I did recheck and could not find a font specific setting -- personally not something I miss. As I said earlier during design development they apparently decided to fix on a font that would be optimally legible at a wide range of screen sizes from mini-tablet upwards rather than offer a variable that few people used.

By "Frame" I guess I meant any surrounding that is more ornamental than functional?

I think this is indicative of the problem with Win8/8.1. It's the lack of choice offered the user which had been available in all versions prior to Win8/8.1.

It will be interesting to see what Win8.2/9 brings...

Bo

Unfortunately font selection in the areas Terrie is interested in is not included amongst those settings so far as I could see when I checked.

As Hugh noted, not quite. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the full Appearances options will reappear ('-}}) in Win8.2/9...'-}}
