Default Given up on Time Machine, need Mac backup app

My Time Machine worked well for years, but is now showing the apparently common problems that I was unaware of all this time. Things had got to the stage where instead of being a silent, efficient backup system requiring not a second of my time, it was consuming much of my day. So I've turned it off.

Now I have 2 Time Capsules, 3T and 2T respectively, and I want to use one of them as a backup drive and am looking for recommendations for a Mac backup app that will see and use a Time Capsule. I realise I won't be able to boot from the TC, but money is a consideration, so I'd like to use what I've got.

Any suggestions?
