steve: My web and mail host had me move to 587 because my ISP suddenly began to filter port 25 ... that is, it refused to pass traffic bound for port 25 (but not port 25 on their IP addresses).
That's what Verizon did (or at least said they were doing...'-}}) but all I remembered was thinking it was a "security" issue...thanks for the clarification...'-}}
