Default So what is 'clean design'?

21 clean web design layouts.

Well, as the author of the article says, what makes a clean design is an individual thing. For me, if a website doesn't tell me enough about the site when I land there for me to want to stay and investigate further, I'm out of there as quickly as my clicking finger will let me.

There are some good ones on the list, but a couple that I would click out of straight away.

And a couple of them are just too busy to ever be considered 'clean'.

Caava Design Quibble: Does "Based out of San Diego" strike anyone else as odd? "Working out of San Diego" would make sense to me. Maybe they're based in LA. Or La Jolla? How far out of San Diego do you have to be to be based out of San Diego, as opposed to based IN San Diego?

Some of them are so clean that there's no content to clue the unlucky visitor into why the site's there. I'd take "too busy" over that kind of "clean". ;-)

Yeah, that Caava Design wording irritated me. 'Based in' San Diego is what I would have said, or 'Working out of' as you said. Teeth on edge material for me...

Yes, I'm more likely to stay on a too-busy site than one that's so clean it's almost non-existent. But include them in a top 20 list of clean sites? No!

Don't really like anything about the Caava Design one. With that irritating font usage would you let them design anything for you?

Probably didn't faze the author, who describes herself as "someone that." Today's forgotten words seem to include "who."

I am also someone that is based out of San Diego. Far, far out, roughly 5380 miles away - is that far enough?

As they say, form should always follow function... I expect that to include designing for the expected visitor to the site, using enough contrast for the content to be read without straining you eyes, fonts that are large and easy to read on a screen etc.

So who do they expect to visit? Other cool designer types? Hmmm...

Aaargh: copy writing is not a speciality, obviously. Apart from what you noted, I gritted my teeth when I read (my bolding: grammar errors and Germanic word order):

"clean layout is the one that has the right amount of elements to show its point without overloading the user with information. ... Today you will find here examples of websites that use color, image, typography, and much more while delivering a clean design. Check it out and let us know what do you think is the main element of a clean layout."

Exactly. And, being one who readily admits that he's nowhere near cool enough to appreciate what they've wrought, I feel neither compelled to stick around, nor guilt over my prompt departure.

So there.

Perhaps the criticism is unfairly directed at this particular company. there are too many sites like theirs.

And my name and cool are rarely mentioned in the same sentence. Didn't stick around very long either.
