Just brought up a Vista machine. Acrobat 6 won't run on Vista, so I am looking for a low-cost alternative. I will only be creating PDFs for screen and desktop printer output. Don't need anything to do with CMYK anymore. Won't be sending anything to press. Very little, if any, color PDFs for printing. Don't use T1 fonts anymore. But WILL be outputing from Ventura 10, CorelDRAW 12, and Office 2000.
I need to create PDFs, maybe do a minor text edit, and to add/subtract pages from a PDF. I downloaded and installed PrimoPDF but haven't had time to test it (been spending all my time getting Vista to be nice to me). Then today I saw a reference to PDF995. Has anybody had any problems with either of these two alternatives to Acrobat? Positive or negative? Other suggestions? |

Corel does fairly good outputs direct to PDF. I can't comment on the two alternatives though, as I have Acrobat (about version 6 I think, which does what I need for now. But since Adobe is so outrageously expesinve these days, one day I may be in the same boat!)

I would go for NitroPDF Professional if I were you, it comes from the same stable as Primo but is more of a complete solution - without breaking the bank. And they have an offer on at the moment!

Thanks for mentioning that, Bo. Reminded me that I'd been meaning to try Nitro out.

Outcome:
I downloaded both Primo and PDF995 and tried them out. Had problems with Primo. Can't recall just now what they were. Tried PDF995. Worked great. Couldn't believe its speed in creating PDFs! Popped $20 for the complete suite and so far, so good. |

Thanks for mentioning that...I have been meaning to look for an inexpensive PDF generator for my sister. I'll take a look at PDF995...
