Default Free File Manager

I am looking for a simple free file manager- that deals with all files. I have used in the past Q-Dir and after a while it stopped working properly. I have now explorer2 lite that is supposed to be free but is not. If anyone knows of free simple software that they used, it would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to mention what operating system and version you're using.

It's not actually a File Manager, but it has those and other functions built in ... I use Directory Toolkit from Funduc Software. It's Win7 compatible and has 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Handles zipping/unzipping, file compare, directory synch (what I actually bought it for) and lots more.

It's been a while since I looked at it, but I think the shareware version is free but less fully-featured; the full version gives you a week or four to try it out, then costs US$25 if you want to keep using it.

The company's very generous about upgrades. My copy was three or so versions old and was 32-bit. I needed to update and put it on a 64-bit computer. They only charged me 11 bucks.

As it happens, I just started looking for one. So far the recommended free one seems to be FreeCommander. I have not tried it out yet. Have you tried this one?

Thanks for the suggestion. Will download it now and try it out. Andrew, I have not tried the FreeCommander. I think I might have seen it on Cnet.

I've been looking around still more. You said xplorer2 is not free, but there appears to be a free lite version. Did that one turn out to not be free?
