I'd go for Lenovo over Dell without hesitation. Lenovo/IBM still have superb online support in terms of driver downloads etc as well as Manuals you can download that include Field Service Manuals with illustrations and videos on how replace components from RAM or hard drives onwards if intended to be field service replaceable.

I've seen other PCs advertised with 6GB of RAM like yours:

Total memory: 6 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)

and it puzzles me since I don't think anyone makes 3GB RAM so they would be using one 4GB and one 2 GB -- I thought that with modern RAM things went better with matched pairs so it might be better to check the cost of getting 8 GB since you are getting a 64 bit system

The Pro does enable you to run a copy of XP inside a virtual machine within WIndows 7 64 but I'm not 100% sure that that enables you to escape the 64 bit OS problem with older hardware you may have if you cannot update the hardware drivers to signed 64 bit versions. Have you run the Windows 7 Update wizard on your present machine to see what it says about your external hardware?

May I suggest posting a query in the Compuserve Laptop Forum since I know there are some users of that Lenovo laptop and docking station:

Laptop Computing

This link Waking up a Win 7 computer to a thread in one of the Windows Forums will show you some people who have that laptop. Jerry is active in the Laptop forum so it's better to post there.

PS -- Here's one I'd forgotten about but someone just mentioned on CIS:

Bill Morrow's Thinkpad Forum:-

He fought IBM and won for the right to use the name!
