I guess it's the evil monopoly that, having bought a company to get certain bits, found itself in possession of other bits it didn't quite know what to do with, other than that if released to the wild, it would continue to compete with its own other bits. Very unwise thing for a growing young monopoly to do. So it didn't.

Sure you can buy other stuff, but then how to you keep all those designer-goods-clad designers from sneering at you and your pathetic software? (Me, I just sorta close my eyes and mellow all over 'em.)
