Default Sony Vaio small laptop

Last week I bought a Sony Vaio small (13.1") laptop, and this is my chance to extol its virtues. Yes, it was about $2,100 with sales tax, but it fits my needs exactly, although, of course, I am on the learning curve with Windows 7 Pro.

This laptop has no hard drive, it has a Solid State Drive instead, and wow, is it fast. Only 127 Gigabytes, but that is plenty for me. I am using MS ACCESS 2010 on large files (500-600 Megabytes as text files before importing), and working with them on Windows XP Pro with a hard drive was dreadfully slow. On the laptop, much faster.

I bought more memory than standard, now 8 Gb, and it has an Intel i5-2410M 2.30 GHz CPU. One battery gives good service for me, but I will look into a second battery for travel situations. Right now I am using it at home, and deliberately running it down and recharging it. The system says 4 hours, but my experience is somewhat less. I am told that running it down and recharging is good for the battery capacity and life. Any comment on that?

Anyway, I really like it, and when I cannot figure out how to do something in Windows 7, there is always the WinXP Pro virtual machine to fall back to. I will post again as I gain experience, and perhaps post elsewhere on Windows 7 books.
