I kept my old version of Photoshop (CS3) on my Mac when I installed the new CS5 suite -- among other things, so I could continue to scan directly into Photoshop easily.

It's possible to launch Ps CS5 in 32-bit mode, though it's bothersome to do so on a Mac. If you do that, you can use 32-bit TWAIN drivers and the old File > Import approach.
