You should be able to use an external drive to booth it and then use the operating system on that drive to lift off your important files from the defective product. Then dump that product.

I am in favor of what BobRoosth suggested about using Windows back up. Dealing with Acronis could be a hassle but if you are lucky and get them on the phone they do give technical advice after they place you on hold for half hour.

I have decided for myself not to use any backup systems which can't be open just like that without having a proprietory software. Acronis backups cannot be opened unless you installed Acronis in the computer you want to transfer the back files into.

My conclusion after hassling with back-up and buying software like Acronis, is to stick to Windows and let them do the back ups, especially now with Windows7 Ultimate they allow Image making which was not allowed before.

Recently I fround out that Win7 only allows one back up which means that if you want to back up to two drives, it will not do it. It will only back up to one drive. But I found a free program that is masterful and which back upyour files without proprietary obligations. That is
GFI Backup Home Edition
