that might work if Outlook Express is clever enough to realise that a BCC isn't addressed to me: I assume the BCC headers are stripped out at the server so can never be retrieved. But how to overcome mailing list messages for example?

Funnily enough, I've never experienced this myself.

Mail protocol is pretty poorly thought out IMO: like letting senders spoof other addresses too. That was fine when it was just 100 nerds sending each other messages, but not for the current use.
