Default Adobe Acrobat 5 and Reader 8.1

I just installed Adobe Acrobat 5 from a CD, and I already had Adobe Reader 8.1 installed. Apparently these two are not compatible, as I can no longer look at a PDF from the Mozilla Firefox 3.5.3 browser. See the attachment, which shows the cryptic message that is no help.
