Thanks George. I have solved the problem with the italics but not the disappearing borders. I agree with you that it would be better to avoid tables but I have quite a lot done previously in Word that took hours to do so I hope I can deal with them rather than having to redo them.

John,

I just recalled -- if you paste something longer in WritePlus, after you return to the document, just click on the red + sign at the lower right of the frame, and instantly all additional pages needed will be added with linked frames. But normally, I import; and I just past small amounts of content.
