Whilst this is quite a serious fault (although you do have a backup, don't you?), it only occurs if you:

1. upgraded an older OS rather than installing on a clean drive.
2. Had guest accounts enabled before you upgrade.

Version 10.6.2 is due out soon, which is likely to fix this issue.
