Default Assisted publishing?

I don't know if iUniverse is old hat by now, and other places are doing this. I didn't discover this until a few weeks ago, by following a link to buy a back-in-print updated book. Apparently, the author bypassed her publisher used this service to put her book back into print. And it looks like many other authors are doing this too.
