I should have mentioned that the "turn on the printer and wait 'til it's booted & ready, then plug in the ethernet cable" procedure may not be necessary--or even desirable--in your case. If it doesn't work first time, try leaving the ethernet cable plugged in while you turn on the printer. And if even that doesn't work, try rebooting the Mac, then go through the "add printer" procedure, then turn on the printer and wait for it to show up in the list.
