Right now that is definitely the case; it seems there is either a bad plug or cable on the USB, or I replugged it into the wrong place.

Before though, I think you’re right: It is taking a nap, but instead of signing off, just pulls its hat over its eyes and hopes no one notices!

With my Epson 4000, it will go into a "dormant" state after 5-10 minutes or so of non-use but as soon as i sent a print job to it, it starts right up--I can tell when it goes dormant because the light on the printers' LCD panel goes dark.
I will look into that. Mike (who also has, or had, one of these) may know off the top of his head so I don’t have to study too hard!
