That sounds like OCR errors. I wonder if someone just scans a hardcopy of the book and OCRs it to text, without bothering to proofread it. I hate that and feel like I'm being cheated whenever I run across it. Like buying a cheap bootleg from some shady character at a flea market.

I imagine that probably IS what happens to create the Kindle editions--I suppose it's unlikely that they'd get the original text files from the book publisher. They probably just pay a licence fee to OCR the print editions.
