The portrait mode will be worse than just a regular CRT for ClearType and for Adobe's LCD-enhanced rendering, but not for older/other approaches to text rendering.

It's been a long time since I've looked at this in person, so I don't remember how bad it is. It will also be worse at lower dpi resolutions.... I'll let y'all know what I think.
