Default Printing in Adobe CS / Mac OSX 10.5.5

Not sure whether this is related to Ann’s recent problem in Illustrator, but MacFixIt founder Ted Landau writes in the January 2009 MacWorld that printing problems may be caused by a bug in a recent Leopard update (10.5.5).

He does not describe the symptoms (just refers to “having trouble printing” and “printing oddly”), but says the simplest workaround is to export a PDF and print that.

Or, in the Adobe app, select Print, then go to Printer Features and change the printing resolution to 600 dpi. You will have to do it every time you print.

That's worrying. Do you know if it affects CS2,3 or 4, or is it just the original CS?

I'd heard that Apple changed the way that the OS dealt with PS when Leopard came out, and that took Adobe by surprise; I was hoping it had been resolved in CS4

I'm pretty sure my problem with AI was caused by not restarting the app after an update I accepted when I opened it.

No problems with printing from Leopard 10.5.5 here, and I was in the middle of an InDesign project when I upgraded.

Sorry — no. Just what I took from the small note in MacWorld. It is current, which suggests either any CS or the most recent, or that’s what I suspect, anyway.

I'm still reinstalling everything onto my graphics PC, so I haven't even started on the Mac Pro yet. That's going to have to be next week, but I'm dead scared about this PS printing malarkey.

Now, now — be your valiant brave self. It will be okay.

I think.
