Go get yourself a thin (but useful) color printing (to an inkjet oriented one will be good enough) book. Available in most book store photography sections. It would be best if it discusses color management (with pictures so your brain doesn't explode).

Something like Color Confidence, by Tim Grey (it's red). There are many others. Real World Color Management and Photoshop LAB Color are great but probably to much for the first timer.

When it comes to printing related topics you've come to the right place. This is the grand-daddy of all publishing venues.
