But many photo cameras these days, even of the point-and-shoot variety, are capable of shooting high-definition video - and more and more video hosting sites support HD video as well. Maybe you're looking at the wrong sites.

Some things simple cannot be communicated in a still photograph. I shot quite a bit of video (non-HD) in North Korea - totally unprepared for it but feeling I had no choice if I wanted to communicate what I was experiencing. I'm now working on editing what I have - a time-consuming but fun learning experience.
