Default P22 type catalog

The P22 type foundry has announced its first all-encompassing specimen book, including character sets and example settings for all of the company’s divisions: P22, International House of Fonts, Sherwood Collection, Lanston Type Company, and Rimmer Type Foundry.

The $20 (plus shipping) 258-page POD book can be ordered at the P22 site, where you can also see sample pages from the book.

Sounds rather expensive to me.

The $20 isn't so bad but imagine how much I'd end up spending on new fonts.

You might. But at least you could see them in print before buying!

OK, so I've bought the book.

I see it comes from Lulu which has the benefit of keeping down postage costs. As soon as I tried to buy it I was automatically redirected to the UK Lulu site which means I only pay domestic postage.

That was smart of them.

Let us know how you like it when it arrives.

I didn't want to set up a Lulu account, so I dropped a note to P22. They got a few copies to sell direct, and mine just arrived today.

I was wondering how it would look, coming from a print-on-demand shop. I was imagining Docutech. But this looks more like offset. Good solid blacks. Holds fine detail very well. Anybody know how Lulu does their printing?

I'm a bit wary of spending too much time with it. Dangers of font lust and all. But I think it will be fun. And I'll page through it far away from the computer, to give myself time to think a bit before buying anything.
