Default WordPress 2.6 released early

The new WordPress 2.6 “Tyner” was released a couple of weeks ago. It does not seem to have major (any?) security enhancements.

It seems to be building on new features in 2.5. One that interests me is the ability to place wp-config and wp-content directories in a custom location — which I guess means no more tedious checking and swapping for the frequent updates.

Another that looks useful is a history log — you can consult previous versions of a post, compare two versions, swipe text from an older version, or revert to one altogether.

They continue to work on image control. More stuff about (gr)avatars. A word count thingie. Ability to add captions to images as you import/arrange them. And a slew of bug fixes.

The WordPress Blog has a short video of some of the new features.

It was an easy update, too. Just 5 minutes, as advertised.

I found that to be true with 2.5.1 as well.

after using it for a while, are you still liking the upgrade? seems they've been putting them out mighty often over the past few months

I don’t have a serious problem with it. They seem to be jazzing up the fancy editor, but I gave up on that way back when and continue to create HTML text that I plop into the plain editor.

Haven’t done any editing today, since I upgraded to 2.6. Sure hope they haven’t eased me out of my preferred work habits!
